Board of Directors

Meeting Minutes – November 8, 2005

In attendance: Victoria Christgau , Hope Emery, Kate Emery, Polly Hincks
Absent: Steve Silk

Kenya Review
Kate showed a few slides on her experience in Africa. The primary impact of her time there was to underscore the need for Compassionate Leadership. To help explore this idea Kate is working on a book on Compassionate Leadership. If this can be published it will give GHI some needed credibility.

Programs
Some of the workshops and Community Events have been put on hold as they will require more effort, money and time than Kate and Victoria can give it right now. Instead we’ll focus on the programs that we have real passion for. For Kate that is the book idea. For Victoria it will be the MLK event for now and then the Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation traing.

If there is demand for the other programs we’ll certainly take them on, but we won’t push further on them for now.

New Approval process – Kate discussed the new program feasibility analysis that we’ll go through in rolling out new programs. When there is a new program we’re interested in rolling out then the project manager will bring it to a Board Meeting for discussion. After which the board will send in votes to the director.

MLK Event – Victoria presented the 15th birthday commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Grants – The following grants are being sought
  • Torrington Foundation – MLK event
  • Hartford Foundation – Strategic Planning - Fundraising
  • SBC - Computer Contribution Program
  • Walker Systems Support asking for funding

Board Building
  • Deb Pasquale (Hope’s idea) she’s head of the Farmington Red Cross and Hope thinks she might have a lot to add. Kate will call.
  • Leadership Greater Hartford – Kate will talk to Doe about possible 3rd generation folks who have recently retired and may be looking for an opportunity.
  • Vi Beaudrea – (Victoria’s idea) - This might be a possibility.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
